Thank you for a great Opening Day Ceremony!
The weather sure cooperated and it was a blast for all of our participants. Thanks to everyone who has forwarded albums of pictures. I’m trying to put together one big album but time hasn’t permitted but I did want to share this link to a gallery of photos taken by our own Amy Oattes. For those of you who don’t know Amy, she’s been documenting baseball events involving her sons for a few years now and does tremendous work. I keep telling her that she should go pro and she just laughs at me!
I’d like to thank the Medford Fire Department, Medford Police Department, Lenape Marching Band, and the New Jersey School of Music for making our parade and day such a success. I’d also like to thank David Zallie of ShopRite of Medford for throwing out the “first pitch” and Siobhan DiBenedetto for her wonderful rendition of our National Anthem. And, most importantly, thanks to all of our players and coaches who took part in the parade – you were the real stars!
Congratulations to Cathedrals of the Game raffle winner Danielle Dove! And special thanks goes out to our top three raffle ticket sellers, Liam Stoud, Kenny Cable and Sean Hasson. Each are receiving two tickets to a Phillies game and a $50 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift certificate! Thanks to all who participated. You made this fundraiser a smashing success!
?And Congratulations to Kathy Wheeler who won our 50/50 drawing which was good for 1/2 of the $384 that was collected.
Field 2 Closed until Saturday, April 26 as new sod is installed
New sod is being installed on Field 2’s infield on Friday, April 18. The work, being performed by the keeper of our fields, Jeff’s Personal Touch Landscaping, consists of removing the existing turf, installing top soil and laying the new sod. Please do not use Field 2 for any reason. The gates will be locked and signs will be placed. Please respect these locks and signs and remind anyone who does not that they will potentially damage the new sod by using the field.
A special Lost & Found item
I’m looking for an adult Rawlings Glove with Nolan Ryan’s 7th No Hitter symbol in the palm/pocket of the glove. Possibly lost on Field 7. If you have any information, please contact me.
Don’t damage fields trying to move puddles
During this wet time of year, extra preparation work frequently needs to be performed to our fields to get them in playable condition. Too frequently, though, more harm is done than good. Please be sure to rake dirt in to puddles, not water out on to the grass. With the water, dirt will be moved and infield dirt kills grass, increases the size of the “lip” on the infield and creates a larger depression on the site of the puddle thus causing a larger puddle to form in that area the next time. We recently had an incident at ShopRite of Medford Field where an inordinate amount of dirt was pushed from the back of shortstop on to the grass in left field. Thankfully, we’re about to begin improvements to this field or the cost to repair the field, just due to this isolated incident, would have been substantial. Coaches, please be sure that your field staff is informed and parents, please consult your coach when trying to help.
Looking for a few items that you may have to donate
We're currently in need of a new American Flag for our flagpole outside of the stack stand. The minimum size that we need is 3' x 5' but 4' x 6' or even larger is preferred. The recent, extremely windy, conditions were brutal on our flag!
We also could use a locking storage cabinet for the Skybox. We'd like to have an area where we could store items that shouldn't be used incorrectly.
If you have either of these items and are willing to donate them, please contact me.
