A competitive game between two evenly matched squads ended in a 4-4 tie. In the bottom of the 7th inning with the score tied and two outs and a full count on the hitter New Egypt sent a runner on a steal of home - the batter swung and missed at strike three ending the inning - narrowly missing the oncoming runner with the bat. The sliding runner barreled into the batter knocking him to the ground.
The unsuspecting and unprotected batter was spiked or kneed in the middle of his back and laid on the ground not moving. He had feeling in his arms and legs but was in a lot of pain in his back. The game was stopped and ultimately terminated in a tie as paramedics were called and the player finally removed on a backboard to a waiting ambulance.
