The Sander & Carson Phillies went into the top of the sixth trailing 4-3. They scored the tying run on a double by Chris Vaughan and a single by Joe Tucci. The next batter Dylan Mengel walked and after a double steal Bradford Conners came to the plate. A swinging bunt brought Joe home just ahead of the throw with the go ahead run. Chris Vaughan closed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth while recording 2 strikeouts.
Chris Vaughan and Joe Tucci each had 2 hits for the Phils. Although Bradford's hit was the only other hit by the Sander team, they drew 8 walks in the game. Four Phillie pitchers kept the game close by limiting the Twins to the four runs while striking out 9 of the Twins' hitters. Mike Conover and Dylan Mengel each pitched 2 innings while Zach Adam and Chris Vaughan each pitched an inning for the visiting Phils.
Defensively there were three memorable plays by the Phillies. Eric Spires made a nice running catch in left field. Catcher Joe Tucci gunned down a runner trying to steal second. Pitcher Dylan Mengel made a nice diving stop of a swinging bunt and flipped to first while lying on the ground to nip the runner. Several nice outs were recorded at third base.
Overall it was a great overall team victory.
