Led by excellent pitching the Sander & Carson Phillies defeated the DND Turf Cardinals 6-2. Dylan Mengel, Mike Conover and Chris Vaughan limited the Cardinals to 3 hits, while striking out 10 batters and walking only 3 over 6 innings. Phillie hitters banged out 6 hits and drew 6 walks in scoring their six runs. Mike Conover had 2 hits, Dylan Mengel, Bradford Conners, Brian Keyser and Chris Vaughan each hit safely for the winners.
Stellar defense also contributed heavily to the win. In the 2nd inning, 2nd baseman, Bradford Conners, fielded a ground ball, tagged the runner heading to 2nd and then fired to first for the twin killing. Outfielder Eric Spires made a great catch on a tough liner. Later, Ryan Sander (1st base) and Will Beighley (3rd base) each made a nice running catch of pop flies in the 4th inning.
For the Cardinals, Nick Montefusco pitched 2 shutout innings to open the game.
