The Burlington County Times Red Sox opened the 2006 campaign with a sterling pitching display as three hurlers combined for a no-hitter while striking out 15 Devil Rays in a 2-0 win.
Steven M picked up the win (1-0) pitching the first two innings and Jarret picked up his first save with two equally stellar innings fanning six and allowing just one walk. Stephen C filled the role of set-up man bridging the gap between starter and closer with 2 near-perfect innings of his own.
The Red Sox scored a lone run in the first when Steven M (2/2 2R) singled and promptly stole second and third and scoring on an overthrow to the pitcher with very alert baserunning. The single run would be enough as the Devil Rays never managed a runner past second base.
The Sox added an insurance run in the fourth when Steven M tripled and scored when Jarret (2/2 1RBI) blistered a double down the right field line.
Greg contributed to the offensive effort reaching base twice as well.
The Red Sox, who played very well during the exhibition season, showed signs of rust only at the plate after a 10 day lay-off.
The Game Ball was awarded to Steven M for his complete effort.
