The "Come Back Kids" did it again on Wednesday as they came from behind to beat Nicklebees and advance to the Championship game on Saturday against Coach Conville's team.
Without their ace pitcher, Jarret, the team came through with some great pitching by Mike, who went 2 1/3 innings, striking out 5, Reed, who went 2 2/3 innings, also striking out 5 and Trevor, who became the first 9 year old pitcher on the Diamondbacks to pitch a scoreless inning. Our ace catcher, Brody withstood the heat and did a terrific job behind the plate, catching most of the game.
The team came through on offense as well with 2 singles from Brody, a big double by Brian, who also played 1st base great, a key single from Joey in a 5 run inning, a super sacrifice bunt by Eric, and a big insurance run by Billy, who also played great defense. On Jarret's third at bat, with the team behind by a run, Coach Mike told him "Jarret, you're going to hit in the tying and winning runs" and sure enough he did with a hard double to right center field.
So it's down to the final Championship game on Saturday, but win or lose, the "Come Back Kids" should be very proud of how they've always played as a team and how much they've all improved as baseball players.
