The Borden team took until the third inning to get the bats going strong, and came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat a good Southampton team 5-4. Shocker LaPierre quickly tied the game when he slammed a home run in the 5th inning. Scott Lattimer led the team with 3 hits, including a hugh double which brought in the (what would be) winning run in the 5th inning.
In the 6th inning Bobby Schuck drew a key walk, followed by a great sacrafice bunt by Joey Birmingham to move Schuck to second, and that brought...yes, Matt Heinkle to the plate. The Cast-man (part man-part cast) drilled a double to left center to score Schuck. Evan Okulanis followed with a single, and scored on the Lattimer double. Brendan Mahan drew a key walk in the 7th, but was unable to score.
Tyler (The-Mitt) Sterner stood strong behind the plate, Robbie Tait continued to lead the team in hustle, tracking down a good hit to center. Paul Maneri ran down a hard hit to right, preventing a key run.
Catcher George Rudderow picked of a key third base runner in the 6th. With a Borden 5-3 lead, the 7th inning had plenty of excitement. After getting runners on second and third with no outs, Southampton hit a ball to center which scored one, and the coach sent another runner home to challenge the arm of Shocker LaPierre in center field. Shocker threw a laser to George Rudderow at home, who was plowed over on the play, which drew an ejection on the base runner, and a hugh out.
The next batter went down swinging, and the final out was a ground out to first for a Borden win!
A hugh crowd came out for the game, thanks for the support! Come out for more fun on Thursday night at Hartford, we have plenty of excitement left!
