The Paramount Pirates defeated the A's 12-1 Monday night despite playing with only 8 players to run their record to 2-0.
Sean L. led the Pirates pitching 3 scoreless innings while striking out 8 and helped his own cause going 3 for 4 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Sean's first inning inside-the-park homerun staked the Pirates to a 3 run lead and was more than enough as Jarret and Steve combined for 3 solid innings of one-run relief.
Jarret (1/3 2 R, 3 RBI) and Josh (1/3 2 R, 3 RBI) helped the offense with a pair of triples.
Steve added three walks and a single and has now reached base safely in each of his 8 times at bat.
Alex and Chris both added runs scored and an RBI.
One of the most exciting plays of the day was when Alex ran all the way fom left-center (the Pirates played the entire game with only two outfielders) to back-up third on a throw from the catcher. The ball got away from the thirdbaeman and Alex's hustle saved a run.
"A play like that may not look like much in a 12-1 win, but later this season in a one-run game that kind of hustle could make the difference.",remarked the Coach.
Defensive stars were Conor and Mike who for the second consecutive game made an excellent play in the outfield.
Sean and Jarret have now combined for 8 innings of hitless and scoreless pitching while striking out 21 batters.
The Pirates next game is Saturday.
