What a game! The lead see-sawed with some opening day jitters seen with pitching, fielding and hitting. The kids settled in with fielding and Conor nursed a 1 run lead before turning the ball over to the middle relievers. The nine year olds took over and got some experience. (In fact, Jack was pitcher of record for the win.) Down 7 to 3, hits were hard to come by but the kids developed patience at the plate and hitting discipline late in the game working deep counts to draw walks. That patience paid off big in the "unlimited run" last inning. Rallying to 7-6 with bases loaded and two out, Mike Drum delivered the killer blow, an inside the park grand slam way over the right fielders head and we took the lead for good. Paul nailed down the save with a strikeout and some heads up fielding coming off the mound to grab a pop up and flip to Mike at first for the double play. A pretty solid effort for the first game out, and hopefully a big motivator for game 2. We're out of the gates and chasing the Pennant.....
