The Pirates won for the third time in a row in a dominating performance over the Brewers, 12-10 on Monday.
Using a familiar formula; strong pitching, early offense and flashy defense the Pirates ran their record to 8-2-1.
Sean L. set the tone in the first with a Houdini-like performance. With the bases loaded and no outs and trailing 1-0, he recorded 2 strike outs and was aided by a nice running grab by Jarret at shortstop.
The Pirates scored two in the first and exploded for yet another 5 run inning in the second as they built a comfortable 8-2 lead after three.
Conor led the offense with 2 sharp singles (2/2 BB 2R 3RBI) and some smart baserunning. Mike added 2 hits and Sean L. and Jarret each scored a pair of runs.
Josh smacked a two-run homerun and Philip, Sean G., Jacob and Chris each added a run scored as the Pirates broke the double digit mark for the sixth time on the season.
"As great as it is to see the boys hit the ball and score runs, the most satisfying part for me is when they play strong defense." said the Coach.
A perfectly positioned Alex made a nice catch in centerfield, Sean L. made an excellent catch on a pop-up and Sean G. contributed a strong effort behind the plate. Conor, Jarret and Philip each made nice defensive plays as well.
Steve continued a strong stretch of pitching allowing just one run and striking out 5 in two innings of work. Josh contributed a scoreless inning as well.
Conor was awarded the gameball for his play in all facets of the game.
The Pirates are peaking at the right time as they will play five games in seven days beginning June 1. "The league didn't do us any favors with this schedule," added the Coach, "but if any team can do it, it is this one. These boys show up ready to play every game. Besides, they really enjoy playing the game."
