Team Effort Carries Borden 5-0

Borden Realty continued it's winning ways by working together as a team to build runs and play strong defense. Pemberton's First Command received a strong complete game pitching effort and made only 2 errors but sent only 25 batters to the plate falling victim to a 3-6 double play started by Mark Milano, a caught stealing with John Grady making a strong throw and John Montenmurro a great tag and Anthony Sellitto picking a runner off of second with a run down that went 1-6-5-4-6 for the out.

Building runs from the top and bottom halves of the order has become a strength of the Borden team. The only run they needed came when Marc Milano singled, stole second, advanced to third on a great sacrifice bunt by Ronnie Surman and scored on a Jeff Currie single. Marc would not have scored without having been moved up to third by Ronnie's perfect execution of the bunt. Borden's big inning began with their tenth hitter, Eddie Enriquez, walking to start the inning advancing to second on an Anthony Sellitto single, stealing third on a dropped third strike, surviving a run down in the process, and scored ahead of Sellitto on a Shocker LaPierre double. Milano hustled an infield grounder with two outs into a hurried throw for an error to drive in LaPierre. In the 5th Borden's final run was driven in by John Grady beating out an infield hit to advance John Montemurro from third. Montemurro's speed had forced an error by the shortstop and he stole second and third.

Let's not overlook the pitching, Shocker LaPierre may not have been throwing hard after multiple lacrosse games in the midday heat but his control was sharp, using just 43 pitches in 4 innings allowing 3 hits, walking none and striking out 3. Anthony Sellitto pitched 3 hitless innings hit one batter, walked two and struck out three.

Having played 11 games already (9-1-1) Borden has but two regular season games remaining against Spott's on Tuesday 5/25 and a Pemberton team on Saturday 6/5.
