For those that may not be aware of it, MYAA baseball is hosting a major baseball tournament Memorial Day weekend in Medford. This tournament called the South Jersey Memorial Day Classic is sanctioned by East Coast Tournament Baseball (ECTB). ECTB is an organization that coordinates travel leagues and tournaments in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland. The tournament will run from Saturday May 29 thru Monday May 31. Scheduled to play in this tournament are some of the top 10, 11, and 12 year old teams in the area. Medford will have four teams competing, the 10, 11, and 12 year old Medford Indians travel teams and the Medford Mad Dogs 12U AAU team. This tournament will feature 50/70 baseball for the 11 and 12 year old brackets. This is the first time we've undertaken 50/70 in a tournament we've hosted. The 50 is the distance in feet from the pitching rubber to home plate and the 70 is the distance in feet between bases. In our in-town leagues we play a 46/60 format. The 11 and 12 year olds play leading, stealing, pitching from the stretch, dropped third strikes, etc. You'll basically see baseball played to major league rules on a scaled down field.
It's amazing to see the amount of interest for baseball in our town this season.I would encourage you to come out and watch a game or two and support the Medford boys. The tournament schedule will be finalized next week. You can view the teams and schedules by going to the ECTB web site at WWW.ECTB.ORG and clicking on the tournaments link. Games will be played at Hartford Crossing, Bunning Field on Mill St, and Worrell Field on Fostertown Rd.
