For four innings the Pirates and Royals put on a clinic playing youth baseball at a level usually reserved for boys 12 and 13. Matching strong pitching and fine defensive the Pirates and Royals were tied 1-1 after three innings.
Sean L. pitched superbly striking out 6 and yielding just one run on a bloop single in the third. Aided by some strong defense up the middle with Steve and Conor converting a pair of 6-4 put-outs.
The Pirates tied the game in the home third when Philip scored on Sean L's single into centerfield.
Steve came on and pitched a strong 4th again featuring some fabulous Pirate leather (read: defense for those not familiar with baseball jargon).
Sean gunned down a stealing Royal at third base with a strong throw and Philip applying the tag. Sean G added a fine catch in centerfield.
The Pirates did not waste the momentum and took the lead when Josh, returning from his broken nose, tripled and scored on a single by Mike. Chris added an RBI plating Sean G. and after 4 the Pirates led 3-1.
The Royals scored 5 in the fifth and although the Pirates rallied for 2, they would never regain the lead losing 9-5.
The Pirates (5-2-1) continue the season's toughest stretch Thursday against the Braves (9-1-1). This current five game stretch feature 4 against the leagues two first place teams.
