Royals Edge Pirates

The Pirates tasted defeat for the first time this season losing a well played, time-shortened 4-2 game to the Royals Saturday.

Held to just 2 hits, the Pirates struggled all day against a trio of pitchers.

The Pirates raced to a 2-0 lead in the first when Conor singled to score Philip and Jarret.

The Royals scored an unearned run in the first and added 3 unearned runs in the second to take the lead by the final score of 4-2.

The Pirates again received strong pitching from Sean L. and Jarret and some fine defensive plays by Philip and Jacob.

"I am convinced we win if we play the 6th inning." said an ever-optimistic Coach after the game. "well, now we know what we already knew, it is hard to go undefeated in a league this balanced." added the coach in a comment sounding awfully Yogi Berra-esque.

The Pirates play the Yankees Thursday before Saturday's rematch with the Royals.
