What are those sounds!? The crack of a bat, the snap of a catchers glove, and the cheers of MYAA's athletes cheering on their fellow teammates.
The Minor National Giants (sponsored by Genie House) opened with two wins against Farmer's & Mechanics Bank (16-1) and Pioneer Auto Body (7-1). Strong pitching performances from youthful hurlers Kris Parker, Robbie Hanold, Chris Rabbutino, Nathan Cohen, and Ryan Barbera sealed the victories for the Giants.
Kudos to coach Rob Dirscherl who has worked very hard this season teaching pitching skills to the boys. "Those boys did a great job. I saw some excellent work up there on the mound", said Coach Rob. The team was also backed up by some great plays on the field. Hats off to Coach Scott who has taught infield situations, proper ground ball attack, and throwing. "Coaches Rob and Scott are fine additions to the coaching staff, they really know their baseball, but they're Phillies fans, I'm going to have to show them how to win", said Coach Gary. Coach Gary is a long time Yankees fan.
The Giants bats came alive from athletes Evan Mello, Kristoffer Parker, Nathan Cohen, Trevor Gulledge, Robbie Dirscherl, and Jack Divney. The team really seems to be gelling. They've won their first two games on pitching but they're going to need to begin hitting more consistently throughout the batting order to win games. The Giants face a tough upcoming schedule against Medford Lakes 2 (Sat. April 24), Medford Police Officer's (Wed. April 28), and Medford Lakes 3 (Sat. May 1).
