In what is emerging as an early season trend, The BCT Red Sox used a familar formula of strong pitching, sound defense and skillfull baserunning on their way to a 5-3 win over the Marlins Thursay night.
Co-Captains Sean H. (win) and Jeff (save)combined with Sean L in striking out 11 and limiting the Marlins to just three runs on three hits.
The Red Sox jumped to a quick 3-0 lead as table-setter Luke (2/3 2R)and Sean H (2/3 double 1R 1RBI) singled followed by a walk by Jeff. Luke scored on a passed ball and two more runs scored as Sean L smashed a one hopper to the shortstop.
Conor scored in the 3rd on more smart baserunning as the Red Sox built a 4-0 lead taking advantage of a defensive lapse by the first baseman.
The Marlins, overmatched against the Red Sox pitchers through three innings, took advantage of a walk and two infield singles to cut the lead to 4-3. But the defense took over with a marvelous 4-6-3 double play (Luke-Jeff-Chris) to end the threat. Tom contributed to the fine defensive effort with a nice grab of a flyball in centerfield.
Sean H smashed a double off the fence in the home fifth to tally the final Red Sox run and Jeff slammed the door pitching a near flawless two innings to dispatch the visiting Marlins.
Game balls for fine performances were awarded to Sean L. and Sean H.
Game balls for the opening day win were awarded to Scott and Conor.
