The Pirates grabbed a quick lead in their rematch with the Braves and survived a comeback with an 8-5 win Saturday in a game as hotly contested as the temperature.
Jarret battled some early wildness and after surrendering a first inning run, battled back to leave the bases loaded retiring 3 straight Braves and limiting the damage.
The Pirates struck back quickly with 5 runs. Philip singled and Steve walked folowed by Jarret's RBI single and a 2 run triple by Sean L. Conor restarted the inning with a single and scored on an RBI single by Josh.
The Pirates scored three more in the second as Chris plated Sean G. and Mike and scored himself on a steal of home.
The Braves tallied 2 runs in the third and 2 in the fourth while the Pirates' bats were dormant. Additional damage was limited by strong defensive plays including Alex's tag of a runner at third and Sean G. tagging a runner at home on a throw from Sean L.
Steve pitched a scoreless fifth and after the home fifth the game appeared to be over. The umpire ruled the game would be extended to the sixth inning. Jarret came out of the bullpen and threw a blistering fastball striking out the heart of the Braves lineup in order to preserve the win.
Chris was awarded the gameball for his single and 2 RBI.
